Pastor Gary’s LJ 2/22/17

Ps 85:4 Restore us again, O God our Savior, and put away your displeasure toward us. 5 Will you be angry with us forever? Will you prolong your anger through all generations? 6 Will you not revive us again ,that your people may rejoice in you? NIV

Typically, a technical word like “again” doesn’t get much attention. In our reading today I was mildly amused when I was drawn into the two times it’s used in verse 4 and 6. Throughout their history Israel had a nasty habit of worshiping foreign gods and, as promised, severe consequences would follow. Every now and then Israel’s king would wake up and lead the nation to repent, destroy the idols and restore the national worship structures and feast times. Unfortunately that lasted until that king died and eventually the nation would drift back into idolatry. The amazing thing is that each time God seems eager to re-engage while fully aware of the very high probability this won’t last long.

No matter how fickle we humans can be, God is not. When we repent and turn back to him he will once AGAIN re-engage and be the faithful God that He wants to be to us. We may not be able to escape consequences, but that’s our issue not His. He’s always in your corner time and time AGAIN!

I love being your pastor!
