Daily fasting thought from PG: Day 4

Hi everyone!

Welcome to Day 4 of our Daniel Fast from Daniel 1. As with all spiritual practices, fasting doesn’t make you right with God. It is simply a tool or a dumbbell (a workout wright, not someone you know) that, if used consistently and correctly will bring added strength and health to your overall quality of life. It’s something physical that is within our natural ability that can effect spiritual growth and effectiveness. So here’s our passage for today.

Romans 8:1-6 So now there is no condemnation for those who belong to Christ Jesus. And because you belong to him, the power of the life-giving Spirit has freed you from the power of sin that leads to death… Those who are dominated by the sinful nature think about sinful things, but those who are controlled by the Holy Spirit think about things that please the Spirit. So letting your sinful nature control your mind leads to death. But letting the Spirit control your mind leads to life and peace.

You can control what you think about. We let or mind think about some things and refuse to think about other things. It’s not a sin if a dirty bird flies over your nest. It only becomes a sin when you allow it to land, take up residence and lay it’s eggs!  Developing daily habits of bible reading and memorizing for the sake of meditation, and singing songs of praise to God are key to “letting” the dove that is the Holy Spirit not just fly by, but take up residence in the nest that is your mind. It’s good for your own ears to hear you recite a scripture as well as to loop it through your mind silently. Hearing and thinking bible verses have a powerful effect. Give it a try!

Happy fasting!
