Breakthrough – A Lifestyle Of Surrender
The Lord is a breaker and He is able to breakthrough any obstacle or opposition on behalf of His people. That breaker-anointing has been passed on to God’s people; the church. Yet there are many hindrances in front of us that keep us from walking victoriously in Christ. In order to remove these restrictions from our lives, we must align our lives to God’s promises and provision and activate the spiritual weapons of prayer and fasting that have been placed in our hands. As we begin the year, we come together to fast and pray, believing God for fresh breakthrough in our lives, our families, our church and our world. We will be fasting January 14 to February 3. Below you can find some helpful information about why we fast, what fasting is and isn’t.
- We are not asking anyone to fast for the entirety of the time set aside. You should spend some time in prayer and ask the Lord for a clear impression of what kind of fast you should attempt, as well as the length of time and who will be affected by the changes in your daily schedule. Some people will fast one meal a day and spend that time in prayer and the Word, others will fast two days a week taking only water and juices, and a few will sense the need to go on extended times of fasting (several days or longer — up to 40 days).
- There is no pressure from anyone at ECF for you to fast. If you are not ready, or really don’t want to do it, don’t. Remember that this is to be done in faith and with expectation. Never fast to impress someone else or to simply be “spiritual” like everyone else. With that said, if you are willing and available I’m sure God will lead you into a time of fasting that custom fits your lifestyle, physical responsibilities, and level of spiritual maturity. Just be aware of the battle that will go on in your mind as you try to convince your body or your “flesh” as the word calls it, that we are going to do this and it’s going to be good for us!
- We are in need of God’s grace and favor! The reason for this time of fasting is simple: desperation for God and recognition that we cannot accomplish His will in our own strength. There is a real sense of coming revival. There have been many prophetic words regarding the outpouring of God’s Spirit on and through our church. We want to position ourselves in humility and expectation for all that God wants to do. “Go through, go through the gates! Prepare the way for the people. Build up, build up the highway! Remove the stones. Raise a banner for the nations!” Isaiah 62:10
